Sealed Gamma and X-Ray Sources – “Geometry Reference Sources

Gamma calibration sources designed for efficiency and energy calibration of HPGe and NaI gamma spectrometers, as well as for the control of gamma counters.

The sources are available in a wide variety of geometries and volumes, including:

  • Point sources on disc supports (also available as source sets)
  • Point sources on rectangular supports (also available as source sets)
  • Test tubes
  • Marinelli beakers
  • Vials
  • Filters
  • Activated charcoal filters
  • Bottles
  • etc.

The sources are available as single-radionuclide or mixed-radionuclide combinations, in which radionuclides and activities are carefully selected to minimize interference between photopeaks and ensure balanced counting rates.
X-ray emitting sources are designed to minimize photon self-absorption at low energy and are used for calibrating X-ray spectrometers, such as Si(Li) detectors.
Electron-emitting sources are employed for the calibration of solid-state or magnetic electron detectors.

Each radionuclide or radionuclide mixture is homogeneously incorporated into a plastic resin, which is then placed inside the container. The active plastic resin is coated with an inactive resin layer, and a cap is applied to the container to obtain a solid sealed source.

Sources are available in various volumes and shapes upon request, with multiple container types and a density range from 0.02 g/cm³ to 3 g/cm³.
The available radionuclide mixtures cover the energy range from 46 to 1836 keV.

For multinuclide sources, each radionuclide is tested individually using a method traceable to national standards; once the source is completed, it is retested for accuracy and homogeneity with a high-resolution gamma spectrometer.
All sources are calibrated at Eckert & Ziegler Nuclitec laboratories, accredited by DAkkS.
