Regulations define confined spaces as all areas not designed for continuous human occupancy — such as tanks, pipelines, silos, cesspools, chimneys, pits, tunnels, or similar environments — where, in the event of accidents or critical situations, serious emergencies may occur, including:
- Falling from height or into depth
- Difficulties in providing first aid or managing emergencies
- Oxygen deficiency
- Unbreathable atmospheres
- Fire or explosion
- Contact with hazardous fluids
- Impact with structural elements
- Burial or entrapment
