NORM e TENORM

NORM and TENORM are characterized by the presence of natural radioactivity originating from the decay chains of thorium and uranium found in nature and detectable in various commonly used materials such as ceramics, stones, cement-based materials, soil, and many others.

The Radioactive Materials Services Division manages all disposal requests from various facilities that, in recent years, have been dealing with natural radioactivity. We are able to provide solutions that support companies and waste treatment plants in full compliance with current regulations.

Thanks to its accredited laboratory, Campoverde can help companies achieve compliance with Article 22, paragraph 6 of Legislative Decree 101, regarding the assessment of radiological risk within the workplace (see link).

Below is the statement from Legislative Decree 101/2020 regarding the classification of NORM materials:

Exemption for raw materials

The exemption values for raw materials are expressed in terms of activity concentration (Legislative Decree 101/2020, Annex 2, Article 2, paragraph 1). Below (Table 1) are the exemption values for raw materials.

Natural radionuclides of the U-238 1000 Bq kg-1
Natural radionuclides of the Th-232 1000 Bq kg-1
Po-210 o Pb-210 5000 Bq kg-1
K-40 10000 Bq kg-1

Table: Exemption levels for raw materials

The activity concentration values in Table 1 apply individually to each radionuclide.
